The Sightless Eye

No word
No sound
No thought

Can ever be spoken
Has ever been heard
Can ever arise
Without time

Word, sound, and thought
All experiences
In any modality whatsoever
Cannot arise
Without time

Experience requires form —
Form is that of which experience is made
And form
Cannot be
Without time
Without space —
Whether the seeming inner space of mind
Or the seeming outer space of universe

The experiencer — of form
Cannot arise — without form
Is never separate from form
And is born and dies with form

As the dreaming self
Always born within the dream
Inhabits only that world
And never the waking realm

So too
The entire universe — from birth to death —
Is lived through the self
Always born within the field of form
Inhabiting only that world
And never what lies beyond it:

No Self

The sense of separation —
Between self and world
Is essential, if experience is to arise
In any world

That separation
Cannot be escaped
Cannot be undone
By self itself —

But its presence comprehended
As its total absence —
It never having been
Eternity alone, dreaming
Through the sightless eye
Of No Self

Yet in time — timeless time —
Self remains, never born
Till death
Separated —

No Self
