The Speaking Pond

I see —
But do I

That there
Is reflected in me
And the reflection, I call
That

As if a mirror were saying
It sees
What’s reflected in it

That grass, tree, and person
There —
Is not all that reflected
In me

Just as moon
In the sky
Reflects in water —
In the pond

Does the pond, or water
See
The moon

How then can I think
That I see
That tree
Moon
Or that

What would one say
To a speaking pond
Claiming it sees —
Fearing
That it may lose
The moon

What, but:
My dear pond —
You reflect
Not see

As do I
This body —
This pond

Awareness is the water
The mirror
Body the frame
That holds mirror —
The water

And
That
Which is out there —
Moon, tree, or person —

Can never
Has never
Been seen
Known
Or touched

By the mirror
The water
