Residues

Carrying yesterday on my back
I went to bed last night

Sitting on my chest
I found it this morning
Pull a bit of it away
Push some aside
Before I rise
And step out

To see the sky —
The sun and the birds
Perched on the fence
Or in the trees

I wonder if some of yesterday
Will still be lying around
When I return to bed tonight
