Being Struck

The incapacity —
Blindness to see
As we are —
In our own eyes

Is nothing but
The incessant —
Inherited need

To lend, give away
Our own eyes
To all others —

And then see ourselves
Through their eyes

Sight is restored
Not through looking inside
Or outside —

But through stopping
Looking from —
The outside

And that stopping
Happens —
Not through practice
But by being struck —

By sheer absurdity
Of ever having looked —
At ourselves
From the outside
