Thief

There are many kinds
Of griefs —

For what is lost
What will be lost

For errors and wrongs
Of the past
And the present

For what was held
And then let go
For what could change
And did not

For what was hoped
And wished
That would never be

Grief for the time gone by
Never to return
For the time that will go by
Without us

Grief for the extinguishing
Of all dreams
For the death
Of all futures

For severance
Of every tether
To the past

The memory of time
Is the grief-maker
