Ends
Others do not

The line between
Dead
And the living
Is absolute

Once crossed
There is no return
No verdict follows
No debt remains

The one who crosses
Goes only one way

And is sealed
Closed off —
From the outside
From those who remain

No authority among the living
Can enter
Alter
Or restore
The one who has crossed

All bonds fall away
At the edge —
Of the line

Only the one who crosses
Stands
At the boundary

Sovereign
For only he steps across
And closes the door
Behind him

Whatever reasons others may hold
Whatever meanings they ascribe
To the act of crossing
None can reach across

Suicide, then
Set aside from questions —
Is the definition enacted —
Not demonstration
Not proof
But the revealing — the disclosure —
What one had always been
