Profanity In Service

One can only ever
Give — truly give —
What one has, in actuality
Factually

The only thing — substance —
That one has, is one’s own
To give — is body

Body is the only means
And form — of connection —
Of giving
Between humans

Body is the only thing
That can be given — truly given —
Without ever
Becoming divided, diminished
Or made un-whole
In its giving

It is the only thing — ever —
Fully able to be given
That can never
Be made unholy —
Never be taken, in its giving

It is the only sacrament
Altar, church
And the sacred
Itself

The only profanity there is
Is the idea of profanity
That the sacred — whole —
Can be made more
Or less holy

It is this idea —
That drives all violence
Torture, mutilation and killing
Of the body

And all veneration —
Exaltation, idolisation
Of the body

Whatever is done
By whatever means —
To rescue the body from being profane
Or to sacralise it —
Are the very things
That are profane

This, here, then
Is profanity — in service
Of the wholeness

Of the body
That can never —
Be stolen from, never defiled
Never degraded, or desecrated
Never be made
Unholy
