Unfitting Costume
I am acting
Wearing a costume
That does not fit
With badges
A name pinned on
I don’t remember
When the play began
Nor when this costume
Got cast on
If it ever fitted
Or I just played along
Too long
Bored of this role —
The tedium of office work
And household chores
In still moments
I strip —
Badges and all layers
And lie down — naked
In my grave
No self, no work
No more roles to play
Like a ghost
I come back
Picking back up what I shed
Going through each day
Indifferent and aloof
To slip out again
