Uncast

I am an actor
Without a role to play
So I create and play this role
Of configuring words
Plucking like a magician
From thin-air words
With a sway of hands showing

The shape of a horse
Pony and goat
Even a unicorn
Pigs flying on a cloud
Anything to amuse —

I used to have roles
Played a boy who went to school
Good son, brother, friend

The rug pulled away
Hanging without roles
I still clung —
Playing a pro, partner, parent
Just to keep on stage

With those stripped
Left to be —
I make my own games
Like a child alone
On a beach

Building
With sand and stones
Knowing the ocean sweeps
It all away
