Given
Like space and time
Like sun and stars, the wide sky, and grass
Like night and day, mountains and trees —
Like growing up and growing old
Work and play — wonder and grief
A warm bed, hot tea, dreams and sleep —
Like all that is given —
Imagined, remembered, and named
Like the human self —
Man or woman, young or old —
God, too, is given
In countless forms, ways, and places
To us, all around
That is the gift — the curse — the price
Of being human
