Echoes

Echoes
Can only form in closed spaces —
Caves deep underground
Or inner hollows
Of a mind

Ancient sounds — walled in
Reverberating, bouncing —
Old voices
In the mind

Like a listening cave
Untiring, dark
Unknown depths

And voices
Forever entering —
Leaving the world outside
Still
And silent

Filled with sounds in every corner —
Layers of sound on sound
A rising, cacophonous frenzy

The cave awakens —
Walls crack
Crumble

From the darkness
Birthing
Another dawn
